FIA Founders Provide Helping Hand - Fall 2007
The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology recently opened the OSU Schoenbaum Family Center, a $10 million facility devoted to families and early childhood in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
A cornerstone of the facility is a completely equipped kitchen, which will be the centerpiece of ongoing nutrition and health training for parents and children.
When OSU graduate and FIA founding member Georgie Shockey heard about the project, she reached out to industry colleagues in the FIA membership to recruit support for the project. Thanks to her work and the generosity of the FIA membership, the kitchen was fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment without cost.
“To me, this is the kind of collaborative project that represents the true spirit of FIA,” Shockey said. “It’s about people coming together with a shared vision and a common goal. I’m proud to be part of an organization whose members are so willing to support something so worthwhile,” she said.
Participating FIA members include:
• Advance Tabco fabrication
• Continental Refrigerator
• Dormont Manufacturing flexible stainless
• Eagle Group equipment
• Hobart equipment
• InterMetro Industries shelving and storage solutions
• JEM Associates foodservice design consultants
• Ruck-Shockey Associates foodservice consultants
• Tim Schmid Schmid Dewland Associates
“Ohio State alumna Georgie Shockey had a great vision when she invited her industry
colleagues to equip the kitchen,” said David W. Andrews, Ohio State’s dean of the College of Education and Human Ecology. “They created a wonderfully efficient kitchen design with the very best commercial equipment. The kitchen helped us attract a vegetarian chef who prepares healthy meals for the children daily. I doubt that any other early childhood program or facility in the country possesses this winning combination,” he said.
